Lansdowne Environmental E-News – June 3, 2011

Hello Lansdownians,

Earth Saturday @ The Lansdowne Farmer’s Market

Tomorrow from 9am to 1pm is a special day at the Farmer’s Market. Besides being able to load up on whatever’s fresh, you’ll be able to stroll through tables of information about all things Earth, green, etc., which should be fun and informative. I’ll be there at a table loaded with information about Lansdowne’s environmental services, how to deal with vines in your trees, etc., so please stop by to say hello, ask questions or let me know how things are going with the new trash and recycling program. The Mayor and Councilwoman Lustgarten (who serves on Borough Council’s Environment Cmte) will be joining me for part of the day, so if you’re lucky you can chat with them, too!

Next Yard Waste Wednesday

It’s coming up — next Wednesday, June 8th. Remember, these dates are on the borough magnets, along with your trash and recycling dates. If you don’t have one, you can get it from me at the Farmer’s Market tomorrow, or stop by the 2nd floor of Borough Hall. The schedules are also at http://lansdowneborough.com

No Plastic Bags

Seriously. None in Yard Waste. None in Recycling. They can go in the trash, or take them to a grocery store to get recycled. My thought: just say no to plastic bags altogether. If you’re in Wawa getting a loaf of bread, instead of having them shove it immediately into a plastic bag, say “no bag, thanks” and carry it out sans bag. Or better yet, put it in your reusable bag. (But if you’re like me, you forget it in your trunk. I’ve been known to walk out of Mar-Win with my hands loaded with items because I forgot to bring in my bag and can’t bear to take a plastic one. But practice improves practice!)

Have a nice weekend, and I hope to see you at the Farmer’s Market. And don’t forget to bring your own bags.
