Lansdowne Environmental E-News – Mar 22, 2011

Hello Lansdowners,

Spring is in the air and lots of environmental things are happening here in town over the next several weeks. Get out your calendar and make a note of these:

YARD WASTE WEDNESDAY

3/23. Yup, this coming Weds is the second YWW of 2011. Gather your yard debris and get it to the curb by 7am on Wednesday the 23rd. All the yard waste goes to an organic site and is composted, it doesn’t go to a landfill. It also isn’t included in the trash tipping fees that the County charges us, so this is a fantastic way to do the right thing environmentally and financially. Yea! Time to get back in the habit of this twice-monthly program. The schedule is on the magnets that are available at Borough Hall if you need one. It’s also on the borough website (www.lansdowneborough.com).

ENERGY CHOICE & HOME ENERGY EFFICIENCY INFO SESSION

4/14. Our Mayor Jayne is hosting a session with PUC (PA Utility Commission) and PECO on April 14th at the 20th Century Club to discuss with residents the changes with electric choice. We’ve also invited the Energy Coordinating Agency to come and inform everyone about the EnergyWorks! program that makes it easy to improve your living space while realizing huge savings through this government program that wants us to save energy in our homes. It’s a free event, all are welcome, and we encourage you to come and get informed. Thursday, April 14th at 7pm, the 20th Century Club.

TREE PLANTING ON PLUMSTEAD

4/9. Come lend a hand to plant trees along the Plumstead Avenue/Wycombe Avenue business corridor. Saturday, April 9th. The start time is 8:30am.

KEEP LANSDOWNE BEAUTIFUL DAY

4/16. It’s time for spring cleaning! Join us at the Borough Green where we will launch our clean-up of all the streets throughout the Central Business District and up and down Lansdowne and Baltimore Avenues. Volunteers will remove trash, sweep the sidewalks and generally beautify our home. Help spruce up the downtown just before we welcome folks who visit us for the Town-Wide Yard Sale on May 14 (a great way to re-purpose stuff you don’t want or need anymore) and the Farmers Market starting May 28. Gloves, bags for trash and recycling, brooms and other necessities will be provided so just bring yourself, your neighbors, friends and family for this great community day! The Mayor will give away some prizes, and the Litter Bug will make a special appearance that the kids will enjoy. Saturday, April 16th 9:30-12 noon, sign up at Borough Green.

SHREDDING MADNESS

4/16. Lansdowne Borough will be hosting a Paper Shredding event in conjunction with Keep Lansdowne Beautiful Day. Bring your old documents and records to the Highland Avenue Parking Lot between 11am and 2pm and they will be shredded and the paper recycled.

Okay, that’s it for now. I have to go outside and clean up the yard!

See you in the neighborhood,

Barbara
